My answer is: with colours!
Living on the coast in beautiful Mediterranean where summer is top season that everybody lives for and is waiting to experience all the hype and sun and sea and excitement of events and new people, arrival of the fall is very sad and even shocking sometimes. Is it really finished? The warmth of the sea, the long sunny days, hot windless air, short sleeves or no sleeves, hot pants or minis, flip flops, summer dresses, is it all gone already? Unfortunately yes.
Windy days, grey days, short days and darkest nights, rainy days, everything that fall brings is here. I have always loved bright and vivid colours and warm and exotic days. Summer is off but few colourful details can revive some summer memories.
Let’s play with colours!
Officially, colour is the visual perceptual property that derives from the spectrum of light interacting in the eye with the spectral sensitivities of the light receptors. Unofficially, colour is the feeling that everyone has watching light getting through wavelength.
Colour is everything to me. It is a way of expressing my feelings, my thoughts, my emotions. Colour lifts my spirit and it makes my day more positive. And I am not alone.
There is a company in USA called Pantone that is living from colours. Pantone's founder, Mr Lawrence Herbert, created an innovative system for identifying, matching and communicating colours because he needed to solve the problems associated with producing accurate colour matches in the graphic arts community. This was in 1963. A book of standardised colour in fan format was invented by him after he got the insight that the spectrum is seen and interpreted differently by each individual. Across variety of industries, from designer to manufacturer, from retailer to customer, today, the Pantone name is known worldwide as the standard language for accurate colour communication. Every year Pantone releases one special colour of the year and for the 2016 it is a combination of two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity. It is a combination of strong yet gentle rose tone with tranquil weightless blue tone bringing connection and wellness together with order and peace.
Liking everything I am writing I decided to dipp into my wardrobe to find all the colours of the rainbow and as well as the colours of the year and decided to dress one week in fall in the rainbow colours:
1. yellow coat for a windy day
2. orange iPad case and jacket for a grey day
3. red shoes + red shirt + red and white umbrella for an ugly rainy day
4. green skirt and boots for a walk in autumn forest
5. turquoise vest + blue scarf for a coffee near the blurry sea
6. purple sweater for a visit to the city centre
7. rose quartz blouse and serenity long skirt in wilderness of the nature
In fashion and styling, colours say a lot about people. If I need to make a statement or I want to send a message there are possible expressions in colours. They even can affect people’s behaviour, attract them to do something or just turn them away from something. Under our Mediterranean sun, no matter which season, colours have a special effect that is possible to feel only here.
Together with New York Fashion Week Pantone brings an overview of the colours seen on the runways for the spring 2017 and provides us the Pantone Fashion Colour Report featuring ten shades as the essential guide for the next season. I am totally impressed with this and I have to say it again, I like them all, even non colours, black and white. Dressing them everyday according the Report or not I am giving the world my feelings at the plate. I don’t mind. Do you?
