This summer in Mediterranean was extremely hot and living through it was not very extravagant. Everything I’ve put on me or on my face or in my hair melted down like the sweetest ice-cream. So what was the solution to this crazy 3-months-no-rain-only-hot-sun-and-moon-rays period? Air-conditioning to beach, beach to beach-bar and back again to air-conditioning. And what I wore? Swimsuits, hot pants and tops and sometimes very light summer dresses and jumpsuits.
What about you? How did you survive the summer?
One day, every-days 40 degrees Celsius collapsed to 24, and Irma-and-Harvey-like storm hit and made it all look like a catastrophe. Luckily it only lasted for a day and we managed to recover. The weather is crazy, three seasons change during a day, but it introduced us to the next season: fall.
This brought me to this blog post topic: layering. Not only because it is the right weather season for it (early mornings very cold, during the day very hot again as it is mid summer and then nights again very cold) but also because the playful layering is still on the style agenda. So let’s layer!!
And don’t get me wrong, there is nothing new or extra that you need to buy, you have all this garments in your closet already.
The easiest way to layer is to put on your summer dress or blouse with pants or skirt with jacket or a scarf and that’s it. You can say you know how to layer.
But let’s make it a little bit more playful and creative here. Getting dressed in fall or any other part of the year shouldn’t be a drag but very fun and amusing part of the day.
Layering, actually, has a very simple definition: way of dressing many garments on top of each other. Two lighter garments are warmer then one thick garment because the air caught between the garments serves as thermal insulator. This is perfect for transitioning seasons like fall or spring when it brings its functionality to its fullest.
So when you feel warm you take one garment off and vice versa, when you feel a little bit chilly put your nice lightweight knit or a trench coat or poncho on and you are set to conquer the world feeling warm and cosy.
Nevertheless, layering in fashion is used way beyond its common purpose and it offers plenty of creative and sometimes even silly layering solutions. Layering in fashion can connect textures, prints and colours that one single garment is not possible to perform. Layering can be functional and helpful but even it can hide your flaws and draw the attention to the vivacity of the colours and patterns.
The greatest thing about layering in fall is that you can wear your favourite summer pieces few times again, like your favourite jumpsuit, or a crop top, or a beautiful floral summer dress.
Making your own combinations with your outfits and getting out of the house, walking in the street, driving in the subway, appearing in the office or in the bar, or where ever you go will make a statement, and it will be yours. There are combinations that are not yet discovered and therefor not yet seen. Be brave and bring them to us.
As for me, an obvious artistic and playful personality, wanting to have fun and be brave too, layering is a must! You should try it too…It is really fun!
