Blue is a colour mostly liked by people. It is the most popular colour in the world. Exploring a little bit about it I found out that there are more then 225 shades and hues of blue in the world. Imagine that!
Blue was my favourite colour for a long time. Now I can’t decide which one is my favourite, I like them all!
Do you know that some painters like Picasso or Pollock or Parrish were so in love with blue that certain shades got the name after them? So there is a Picasso Blue or Parrish Blue (aka Cobalt Blue).
But not only people inspired for names of the blue shades and hues, there are names of the shades of blue named after animals, plants, minerals, countries, islands, harbours and beaches, but mostly after water and sky.
Here on Mediterranean we have very clear blue sky and beautiful deep blue sea. Navy blue also called Royal Blue or Midnight Blue is the most expressive right here in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The mystery but also the trust that deep waters give you are indescribable. One never knows what secrets are hidden at the bottom, in the deep.
I sometimes contemplate of deep navy blue waters very often because getting a little bit further from the shore you get into this beautiful deep blue sea, which is hiding so many secrets. Of course there are live creatures, sea plants but also secrets like sinked navy ships or small fishing boats, even airplanes and helicopters crushed in a war or in a tempest. Maybe if they could talk we would find out what was their mission, where did they had to go or what happened at all. History, secrets, poetry…this is what navy blue makes me feel when I think about.
When you think of a dark navy blue colour what it means to you?
Navy blue got its name from the dark blue colour worn by navy officers in the British Royal Navy since 18th century. Except in military it was also used in computer industry as one of 16 original HTML/CSS colours for standardise computer display in 1980s.
There are different meanings of dark blue (navy blue) in the world. In corporate world it is a professional business attire but in Korea for example it is a mourning colour.
Regarding fashion, navy blue looks like totally forgotten or put a side colour maybe because of a reminder of navy, police or school uniforms. It is one very elegant dark colour but again with very specific light flair and mystic. You can dress all in navy blue without looking like you are going to a funeral or a glamorous evening party like when you wear all black.
It can be worn when it comes to accessories, details, business suits, jeans, jackets, evening gowns or even summer dresses with different patterns specially stripes reminding of sailing and sailors. It is a colour you can match with all other colours and use it as a canvas to paint the most beautiful paintings.
Mediterranean or Los Angeles, what do you think?
I read in one blog about colours that dark blue means: trust, dignity, intelligence, authority, loyalty. They say that it is a colour that can be sometimes a little bit cold and snobbish or expressing a lack of emotions but when I wear it I feel confident, powerful and strong. Is there anything else a girl needs?
